Barcelona coach Hansi Flick stressed the importance of staying focused in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund, while also affirming his absolute confidence in his players and their ability to advance to the semi-finals.
Barcelona will visit Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday evening, holding a significant advantage after winning the first leg 4-0.
Flick said in his press conference: “The result in the first leg was important, but it means nothing if we don’t continue at the same level. Matches like this require intense concentration, from start to finish.”
He added: “We know the match will be difficult despite our advantage, but we have the confidence and ambition to continue. We want to enjoy our football against one of the strongest teams in Europe, while maintaining what we showed in the first leg.”
Flick spoke admiringly of Robert Lewandowski, saying, “He’s an exceptional player. A top-class professional with immense experience. We rely on him a lot, and he proves to us day after day that he’s an invaluable player.”
Regarding the team atmosphere, Flick explained that the team spirit is strongly present: “We felt the great support of the fans in the December match, and the team is striving to return the favor through performance. The relationship between the players and the fans is in excellent shape.”
Regarding the players’ physical condition, Flick revealed Dani Olmo’s situation, saying, “We will decide his participation at the last minute, but it’s great to see him gradually return. We want everyone to be available because we aspire to reach the final.”
Regarding the team’s ambition to achieve a major victory, as it did with Bayern, Flick responded, “I don’t dwell on the past. What I’ve achieved in the past doesn’t concern me now. My full focus is on the match against Dortmund.”
The German coach concluded his remarks with a clear message: “I have complete faith in my team. These players want to reach the final, and I want to give them that opportunity.”
